Christmas at the Southern Palace!

For the better part of two months, I’ll be playing Six Flags Over Texas’ Christmas show “Christmas at the Southern Palace”. This show is a 45 minute long production full of Christmas classics, great choreography, and jazz big band arrangements!

While I generally work in the Texas/Country scene and in studios, it has been nice to lightly step back into the jazz world for a little bit. This show features an incredible horn section full of Dallas’ top players. Getting to play with a live horn section is always a nice treat…and getting to play with a horn section of this caliber is even better.

This show runs for roughly 6 weeks and we’ll play somewhere around 120 shows. Each show is jam packed from beginning to end and from the drums perspective, pretty much 45 minutes of solid playing. Due to the demands and schedule of this gig, I have been making sure to always warm up and take care of my hands. This warmup has been one of my favorites for a long time and does a great job of getting one’s hands to a good point without having to play for a long time. 3-5 minutes is all you need to really stretch your hands out and be ready to play. Try it out on your next gig and let me know what you think!

And…if you need some holiday cheer this December, come by the Souther Palace at Six Flags Over Texas!
